We stopped here on our way out from Fairfield lake state park. It's a great place with lots of historical information. It's amazing to see how people lived. The grounds are beautifully kept and we were the only ones touring the grounds in June 2020. It was 4 and adult to access. Bring exact cash to fill out the envelope to get your access permit. I think my favorite was the gazebo but the canon was pretty amazing to see too. It would have been fun to kayak the river, but due to timing and exhaustion from camping, I just didn't have it in me. I hops you'll get a chance to stop by and see some history and enjoy a peaceful tour of the grounds. We also saw the Mexia lake on the way out to hwy 84.

This was a cool place to check out, loved the swing sets and dance floor. They were doing maintenance on some spots as well, and it wasn’t far off our route.
If you enjoy being away from people and in nature this is the place
We spent the weekend at Fort Parker state park and decided to rent a canoe and paddle up river to see the Confederate Reunion Grounds. Don't listen to the ranger when they say it is a 45min paddle up stream, more like 2 hour. The park it's self looked clean and we'll maintained. Probably worth a drive in by car..
Interesting historical marker. Did not have time for an official visit. Also, didn't want to pay an entry fee.
