I adopted two kittens from there, they were not adjusted to people so stayed under the couch for the first month, coming out at night to eat and use the litter box. We finally ,after lots of gentle coaxing and bribing , got them to come to us. Now they have been to the vets for shots. Another visit for bad case of worms, respertory problems including one eye shut. When looking at their papers these people knew that there were problems and did not keep them long enough for treatment. They were supposed to give med for 10 more days but did not tell us that. They met us at the door and put them into our carrier! We love them now and it pains us deeply to know they are suffering, the vet just sold us ointment and worm med. The eye is still closed and we have spent a fortune on med and vets!! Not to mention the exorbitant fees to adopt them. When trying to give the worm med to the little girl she bit my husband in 8 places on the hand. This place just wants to get rid of these cats and blames the covid for not doing things right!

Wonderful people who take time to answer any questions and they provide wonderful care for shelter animals before they are adopted! I can tell my little guy was well taken care of there prior to being adopted. Highly recommend them!

Not the best animal shelter around and they charge too much. 200 for a 15 year old dog??

We just adopted brother & sister ‘tuxedo’ kittens through your out-reach program at the Damariscotta Animal House on Friday. In the 41 hours or so that they have been at home with us, they have not only adjusted well, they’ve already stolen our hearts!! Zucchini & Beet have now become JoJo & Jacinda respectfully. JoJo for the great Celtic basketball player JoJo White and Jacinda to honor Jacinda Ardern, the Prime Minister of New Zealand (where we were when the pandemic hit). They have full run of the house (which we have been kitty-proofing on a regular basis to keep them, us and our home in one piece), but spend 98% of their time in whatever room we happen to be in - they love being around us as much as we love having them! The living room floor has a few fuzzy mice, a couple of balls and a great climbing/scratch post but the favorite pastime is ‘hiding under the chairs and pouncing on my sibling’. They are eating well, drinking lots of water (which they have decided tastes best from cut crystal, so that’s what they get!), playing happily together and getting lots of snuggles! Taking a nap on Daddy’s lap is, according to them, “THE BEST!”. Nights find them snuggled in bed with us, often on the pillows, but occasionally sleeping with their heads on the pillow and their bodies under the covers! We want to thank everyone at Midcoast Humane and the Damariscotta Animal House for bringing us all together!! We are one big happy family! Love, Ann, Alden, JoJo & Jacinda ️️

Amazing and caring animal shelter. Animals really get individualized attention.
