I took the 1 Day Damascus class and used the steel I forged to make two knives during the 2 day weekend knife making class. It is just something about making steel like they originally did and making a pair of knives using a coal and gas forges. The coal forge was a better historical experience and needs more attention. Jay, Mason and Mac are very good at what they do and you can tell they have passion for passing on their knowledge to others. Forging is a lost trade due to modern machines. Jay really makes it easy to understand the steps and the how and why things work the way they do to accomplish moving the steel. It is long days, bring a lunch and drinks with you. Great experience.

Jay and the crew at Underhill Forge are great! This has easily been one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. They walk you through every step and in the end you have real knives, that you made, that are unlike any others in the world. I took the two day knife class, but I’ll be going back for the tomahawk and Damascus classes too. I couldn’t be happier with my experience and definitely recommend it to everyone. It’s worth every penny. Expect long, hard, but very satisfying days, and bring your own food and drinks. Thank you Jay, Mac, and Mason for a terrific experience.

I've been wanting to take a class like this for quite some time. Spending the day with J and Nate was an awesome experience. J was accommodating, patient, and more than happy to answer any questions I had as we worked a small chunk of steel into a fully functional viking-style blade. One of the best parts of this class was coming to the realization that this is something that I'll definitely pursue in the future--perhaps by taking another class! 11 out of 10, would hit hot metal again.

I paid for this class and had to reschedule due to illness which was approved by the company. Then it needed to be rescheduled again due to covid. I have not been able to get a hold of them since then. Essentially stole nearly 300 from me and my husband never got his gift.

I had high hopes and was extremely excited when I signed up for my class. Little did I know that I severely underestimated how awesome my class would be! I signed up for a two day weekend class, then saw a Friday Damascus add on and I was hooked. 3 days of forging was great. We started from just pieces of metal and wood and made one of a kind knives with handles. I cant say enough. The class was very relaxed and there was always real answers to questions. I would recommend to anyone that has an interest in forging to contact Underhill Forge. J is the real deal!
