Wonderful place to work, exceptional management team, great training program that provides exceptional training and mentoring programs. After dedicating 45 years of service to this most important industry. The five years I spent at Austal USA and retiring was a wonderful and rewarding experience.

Terrible experience. My instructor, Billy Johnson, welded the lugs on the USS mobile. I was there when the lugs broke off the flight deck and it dropped over 75 feet. Scared me to death .We spent over two moths repairing it in sweltering conditions. My other instructor, Ronnie Ford bragged about using cocaine, then went to tell me how he changed his life for Jesus. It was an extremely odd experience.

This company does not deserve any good praise whatsoever. Austal is an extremely dishonest and mismanaged corporation that host a hostile work environment and subjects employees to horrific working conditions. Rules and regulations are not found here. This company would make Amazon's working conditions look like nothing. The good press Austal constantly receives is completely undeserved. Do not work for this company. This is not a state of the art facility. It's an outdated and dangerous manual labor job. Incorrect tools are used to complete work. Most tools are dameged, so expect electrical shocks daily. OSHA regulations are disregarded and ignored. Management is incompetent. Lasting here is not based on work ethic, its based on who likes you. Liked employees are able to disappear and hide in the bathrooms for hours on end. Stealing is part of the company culture. If you turn your back for a second, your equipment and tools may be missing. The working conditions are terrible. Extreme temperatures are a major problem. You will also have problems just even breathing here. They say overtime is optional, but if you refuse there are negative consequences. This is a terrible company. The only way to succeed here is to become used to lying, hiding, and stealing. It's an extremely dishonest company and the good state of Alabama should be ashamed of supporting them.

I got staff infection from working in MMF2. I went to break and when I got back to my work area someone stole my 300.00 welding shield. So I contacted security to check the cameras. They wouldn’t do anything. Told me they didn’t work in that area. I know they could have look to see who was walking through that area with my welding shield no one had a welding shield like mine. Stealing is the norm.
