The Cabin and surrounding area is like a story book. It is as quiet and peaceful as anything you could wish for -a great get away. Sitting out by the fire, listening to the creek, seeing a rafter of turkeys, watching for the evening deer and sampling some great syrup...taking a ride on as scenic a route as you can find. The vastness and the beauty are incredible. Pat and Val are real people w/ excellent taste as the Cabin is perfect. Drop everything and go...you will not be disappointed.

Last weekend my wife and I stayed at the Cabin on Back Creek Farm. What an absolutely delightful experience it was! From the well appointed cabin to the vast open spaces surrounding it , the rustic little creek and the incredible maple syrup they make there: It is a wonderful place! Val & Pat are very welcoming and charming hosts. This is the place to go to leave your urban worries and stresses behind. The location is remote but easily accessible . The landscape and natural beauty of this area are amazing. We will return for sure!
My husband and I have traveled throughout the US and the world and this is by far the worst experience we've ever had with a HomeAway, VRBO, or AirBnB. The listing included AC, a hot tub, and a private 28 acre property. After a long drive we arrived to find no AC and a note saying the hot tub wasn't working. We asked the owners who confirmed that it would not be fixed. For the next 2 days the owners and their friends were showing up to the property almost nonstop, so it wasn't private at all. We left early because of the lack of AC, hot tub, and privacy. The owners also have a confederate flag hanging in the window, which as a mixed race couple made us feel extremely uncomfortable. I do not recommend staying there if you aren't white, or if you want AC, hot tub, or privacy (all of which are listed as amenities for this property).
We came back after five years, with our 6- and 14-year old children. Our stay was absolutely lovely - The Cabin on Back Creek Farm is meticulously maintained, very clean and spruce, and very comfortable. We enjoyed the chaise lounges by Upper Back Creek, grilling and eating outdoors, walking around the property on the freshly mown path, cooking in the lovely kitchen, and the cool breezes. Our kids were excited to explore Upper Back Creek (under supervision, of course!), to play outside, and to go with us exploring the mountains. We used the Cabin as a base for watching the Perseid meteor shower, as we had five years ago. We took several day trips - the Garth Newel Music Center for an awesome, relaxed jazz concert; the Green Bank Observatory; hiking at Seneca Rocks, and exploring Highland County. We felt utterly at home - as a city mouse and a vagabond occasional country mouse, this escape to peace, quiet, and privacy was relaxing and refreshing. Chatting with Valerie and Pat at the sugar shack, sampling their innovative maple syrups, and getting their advice on things to do, were all unexpected bonuses. We will be back!
