This review is solely for Sara Bannon the director or accounting. We had a horrid experience with her. We decided to send our daughter for the upcoming school year prior to COVID. A few weeks prior we decided to pull her out bc we didn’t feel comfortable as most families wouldn’t during these unprecedented times. We were told we wouldn’t get our deposit of 1000.00 back nor could we use it for the following year. It seemed extremely odd, especially bc of COVID and all the financial hardships it puts on families. The admissions team decided we speak with Sara since she’s the head of accounting. We agreed! She called us... She didn’t bother introducing herself or even say hello! Before my husband could even finish his sentence Sara began to speak over him and said that MSNV is a business and they will not return or roll the money over and that they have no problem sending us to collections. She was very upset and told us that we have signed a contact and that was it! From there it got even worse, she told us repeatedly to find a new school or daycare. My husband asked her why she is suggesting that yet she refused to answer and continued to speak over him. At this point, right then and there I felt very belittled & discriminated against. Why was Sara suggesting us to find a new school? I began to wonder, is it because we don't have very American names? Is she assuming we cannot afford tuition? Where is all this coming from? Before, we could finish Sara hung up the phone on my husband while he was still speaking. We were appalled by this entire conversation! It’s sad and unfortunate that Sara is the face behind this reputable school. Maybe if we had “american” names the outcome would have been different. I mean if MSNV is a business as she mentions... all money is green regardless of who it’s coming from right?? So sad!

As current parent we have felt so fortunate to be apart of the MSNV community for the past six years. Our child is thriving in the upper elementary program and genuinely so excited to go to school everyday. The Montessori curriculum is so valuable in allowing the children the creative freedom and the interpersonal social skills that will serve them the rest of their life. The outdoor opportunities throughout the day are fantastic and the incredible caring, nurturing environment truly provides an incredible experience for the children and the families of MSNV.

I appreciate the respectful, nurturing environment, and the emphasis on independent problem solving at MSNV. It also has highly trained teachers and low staff turnover - which can be hard to find in early childhood education. The Montessori materials/approach give students an excellent foundation in both academics and social skills. This is a lovely community that encourages family participation and feels like a second home for my children.

The oldest Montessori school in Virginia is also the best Montessori School in Virginia! Our daughter has been here since she was 5 and she would stay through college if she could. She feels welcome and appreciated and confident thanks to the school’s wonderful faculty, staff, students, and community.

My son attends MSNV and we love the school, the teachers, and the quality of the education he is receiving there. The school facilities are bright, open and inviting, and the classroom materials are exciting for the children and give them a variety of work projects to explore, and the breadth and depth of what my son is learning is amazing. We also love the amount of parent involvement and participation in events that we see, and the kindness and friendliness of other MSNV parents and staff. This year my son is finishing the Primary program (age 3-6), and we are enthusiastically sending him to Lower Elementary (1st-3rd grade) next year.
