Been camping here for years, one of the best free camping places available. Lake level is low but doesn't ruin the experience. Just please take your trash out when you leave, as there is no garbage cans in the area. Good place for dogs, kids, really the whole family. Get here early, as the available spaces are limited and fill up fast in the summer! Update 4-15-21 this area does not open until may 15 and closes November 30th. Also the water is now lower than ever, and quite dusty when the wind picks up so plan accordingly.

Great place to camp on the lake for free. Too bad I had to clean sobre trash up from the previous person.

This is a popular camping area, but due largely to folks not being able to police themselves, pick up their own garbage, relieving themselves everywhere but in the provided facilities and being a nuisance to other campers, the site is in jeopardy. Management must take action to mitigate the 10% who abuse the privilege of one of the last vestiges of free camping which then unfortunately punishes the other 90%. Gates are going up, stays are becoming more restricted and it's easy to blame management. However, blame lays elsewhere. Dog Mountain landing zone is not a campground folks, it's a wildlife area and it is supposed to be a primitive experience. Continue to abuse it and we're going to lose it.

Beautiful view, good fishing in the area. Campsites are lacking, but there is a pay area a couple miles away. Get to watch parachutes, etc., landing.
Its a good place to take your dog and maybe the kids do some kite flying or whatever your fancy I've been coming here for years and still find a piece of mind at dog Mountain
