Very good to-go curry at 10.50. The first challenge for newcomers is probably to find the restaurant itself -- it's actually very conveniently located next to the large parking structure, but not particularly discoverable unless you already know which small alley it is in. After getting there, note that this is advertised as a to-go restaurant and doesn't provide any seating, hopefully you came on a sunny day and can take advantage of the seats near Castro street. The food is nothing to complain about, it's cooked just right and the serving size is just right. I would recommend the pork cutlet curry here, although the beef curry was also decent. The sauce comes in three levels of spiciness, all of them seem fairly mild to me. I don't think it's significantly better than other places to justify the 10.50 price, but it's worth trying at least once.

Conveniently located next to the Bryant Street garage, this is my go to curry spot when I have a sudden craving. The curry they make is not too thick and has pieces of beef marinating in it for hours. Really tasty! The cutlet is also not super greasy and dried out. They used to be take-out only, but it looks like they are now a part of Ramen Izakaya? As a result, the entrance is no longer facing the garage, but on Castro Street. The few extra steps is rewarded when you can actually dine in.
The food is good, but not special. It's the greasy, heavy Japanese curry that I crave once in a while. You can customize the meat and spiciness. I opted for the green salad option, but I got half a handful of spinach leaves crammed into one of side dish cubbies of their to-go box. Hmm, oh well. They're known for their curry. This place is essentially a to-go restaurant. You order at the counter, pay, wait for your food, and go on your merry way. The wait itself nearly broke me; I was starving. There were only 2 folks who ordered before me but I had to wait 25 min before I got my food. For a small to-go restaurant, I expected it to be more efficient. I likely won't come again unless I'm feeling too lazy to make my own curry--Castro has a lot of other better options.
First, we couldn't even find the place. It is actually in front of Shabway between sidewalk and car path. Anyway, the curry is very tasty. I had Beef Gristle Curry and it was so goooood!!! I would go back again soon!
The first question that popped to mind is "Is this place better than Muraccis?". No, it most definitely is not, but it is good and cheap enough to warrant repeat visits. I ordered the pork cutlet with beef curry. They bring the curry and salad out in a portable box container thing from Shabuway. The curry actually had beef in it and the beef was delicious. The pork cutlet pieces were nice and thick, so it wasn't dried out. I really do wish they would give more rice to make it more filling. I'm not sure how they'll operate in the winter since it'll get chilly and by dinner time it will be pitch black, but I do look forward to trying this place out again.
Stole 65 from me... by padding a 15% tip by 65! Refused to correct when confronted and continued to lie when I tried to resolve through credit card company. The curry itself is ok, but the meat is over-breaded and over-cooked.
Curry was great! Place is hard to find but totally worth it! Great japanese curry in DT mountain view
This one has actually been combined into Ramen Izakaya Yu-Gen which is at 152 Castro. According to our waitress these two restaurants as well as Shabuway which is in the 180 Castro address are all owned by the same Japanese chain. The Kobe Curry menu IS served at 152 Castro. And it's really good! The Pork Cutlet Curry, medium spice, with a boiled egg and macaroni salad. The cutlet is perfectly crispy and holds up well to the curry gravy. The medium spice was not all that spicy so I might consider going up to the hot next time.
