I have a close friend who is currently staying there. She has informed me that basically out of spite the staff has removed key items from the client \kitchen area\ such as their microwave and their coffee pot, which was donated to the CLIENTS of New London Homeless Hospitality Center. Pretty much out of spite and/or sheer laziness staff just take it away with no warning. Also, even though the place is not filled to capacity they have people sleeping on the floor on basically gym mats rather than the beds they have available. Lastly, they are not properly staffed, a few weeks ago a gentlemen had a seizure in the middle of the night and both staff members for that night didn't show up and neither did any replacements leaving clients alone and scared and left to call 911 on their own..I could go on and on but I wont. I think I've made my point. But one last thing before i go...where is all the money going that's supposed to be going into the shelter FOR THE PEOPLE and who is in control of it?
In the Summer of 2018, I went to Connecticut on Greyhound. For some reason, I just hopped right off at New London. I didn't sleep in the shelter once, but I did take my showers there, they was nice to let me keep my bag in the shed. Every other day I went to shower up and changed my clothes. The staff was really nice. What was more awesome was that they paid for my bus ticket back to Salt Lake City, where I belong. What I learned is because I was no resident of Connecticut, I had to be on a waiting list.
