I am a music lover. I used to go to disco-rama in the village many, many years ago. New York City used to have many record stores. It's good to see that Academy is still thriving, they have various genres of music and plenty of vinyl, Jazz,Theater, classical seems to be there concentration, don't let that disway you, they have hip Hop; even saw a few j-dilla albums. It's good to see they still have Cd's as well. A quote from the cartoon Fat Albert; he once said \ Hey Mudfoot U know what we're here for; Lay some treats on US. \ Academy has treats and gems !!

One of the only places left in N.Y.C. to buy CD's and box sets. Sort of my lifeline! Great staff, clean store, friendly helpful workers. Could be just a little more frequent turnaround of merchandise, but ranks in my Top 3 of stores currently.

Amoeba is hands down one of the most legendary and eclectic music and multimedia stores on the planet.Two floors of all genres of music, CDs, vinyl, books, posters, memorabilia, and a wide array of artists too. They have niche bands that I haven't found anywhere else.My favorite part is the album release parties they have. I went for Belle and Sebastian's album release. Meeting them was a bucket list item for me, and they signed the album. Amoeba has many celebrities like Ozzy Osbourne or The Suburbs.I can't wait to go back.What also wins me over is the parking. They have a garage with plenty of space.

The vibe is very New York which is not always a compliment. Kind of unhelpful staff and not a welcoming place but the records are good and the prices are fair

A widely complete store, filled up with records. I liked the fact that it had tons of CD's (not a good idea taking vinyls on an airplane). The staff were really friendly, and the prices were amazing. Found a couple of CDs for 2 bucks, and some rarities as well!
