I want badly to like them, but... I like the largely educational mission, and I like the products. In theory, you can do some really cool stuff. However... I ordered a pretty beginner-level kit to do with my son, and it turned from a fun Saturday afternoon project into somewhat of an ordeal to get it to work in a meaningful fashion, and to get it to work involved hours of testing that he couldn't really be a part of - He's a kid. Short attention span and all. Ironically, I think the kit would have been better if it used a different, more expensive part that they also sell. That would create a much better experience for the exact people Adafruit seems to want to be their customers. Unfortunately, the support is sorely lacking. There doesn't appear to be a way to contact them outside of posting on their forum, and despite repeated posts on the forums, I got zero help. Some have used the pandemic as an excuse, but it's a web forum, so it can be done from home probably more easily than any other job! And I can't imagine that a business that sells fun stuff to do at home with your kids is suffering during the pandemic. And somehow, they've got a banner on their web site advertising that they've got a 4.9 on Google reviews, when it's a 3.7 here on Google as I type this, and every other review site I've seen has them at less than 3. So while I gave them 3 stars for the products and the mission, the poor support and poor user experience really diminishes what could be a really awesome company.

Adafruit is everything a online tech retailer should be. The website is super fast, very intuitive and extremely helpful. My son and I are building a weather station from the ground up. This requires piece part building and discovery of what we need. Adafruit supports this model of development fully. They have a wishlist feature that allows us to add items to the list as we discover a need for them. We don't know what we don't know! Their openness should be commended. They embrace open source and give back a lot of designs, code, and help to the community. What a great example of how a company can thrive while being open. Shipping is super fast and thorough, I'm super close on Long Island and I get deliveries in 1-2 days. The orders are handled great. Email conformation with links to each product and links to tutorials/datasheets. When the shipment arrives printed paper with the same information. Support a great NYC based company. Who needs silicon valley when u have NYC Tech!
I have never dealt with a company with such terrible customer service as Adafruit. I signed up to their website so that I could ask a question on their forum, because they don’t want you to just email them with a technical question. Which seems kind of odd, perhaps a tactic to get as much info from unsuspecting people then sell your info to a third party. After joining their site and posting my simple question on their “forum” I was ingored. It wasn’t until I emailed them them that I was told they don’t offer “engineering support”. This is the most BS response as I just asked a simple question because I’m a NOOB to electronics. I had a simple question about which solenoid would be appropriate for my project and if I could use a mini bread board instead of a standard sized one. What’s so hard about answering those simple questions? Not only did they offer an asinine response, they were arrogant while doing it. This company will not help you if you are a beginner contrary to what’s stated on their “about us” where they say they want to help people of all ages and SKILL LEVELS. Why sell products if you can’t answer simple questions about those products??? They are full of it and I would HIGHLY recommend shopping else where for your electronic parts.
Adafruit is a wonderful business! I love being able to see videos and pictures of the owners and their colleagues working hard to offer a beautiful product selection at competitive prices. You definitely have my business from Tampa, Florida! I can relate much better to a business that shows the problems they are solving to offer the customer their best. That's exactly what Adafruit does, and then some. If it were not for Adafruit, I would have no choice other than to buy items from overseas and wait weeks for customs clearances, flights, and processing by domestic shipping companies. Fortunately Adafruit already went through that trouble for the US customer, and now we can enjoy domestic shipping rates on the same items. You have to appreciate the hard work someone is doing before you criticize it. Keep at it Adafruit, you rock!
When I ordered the MintyBoost from AdaFruit, for 25.54 I looked at the picture on the left. Looked like what I wanted to charge my old Iphone 6s on the go. turns out it is a kit you must assemble with a soldering iron no less. The kit doesn't even come with the case. Clearly the company misrepresents the item in the picture. Try to resolve it with the company but they wouldn't refund. I found a fully assembled charger for 15.
