This place is awesome! Very underrated Indian on the UWS, add in that they’re BYOB without a corking fee and this is one of my top places both for regulars and visitors alike. Charming, not quite a hall in the wall, but very friendly and intimate setting.

The two primary ingredients of any dish seem to be 1) red food coloring and 2) sugar. Ordered gajar halwa, was sent grated, suspciously colored carrots poached in syrup, no milk no spices whatsoever. All main courses have wrong spice combos, hardly any whole spices like cloves, saffron or cardamom ever detectable. The chicken jalfrezi below, tastes like indo-chinese sweet and sour chicken. Even the rice is tasteless and of course topped with comically artificially colored red rice. Each order is accompanied by... you guessed it, minced red onions, and I mean, dyed red. Give this one a miss please.

I do not eat Indian food very often so I don't really know how to compare the quality. While I did enjoy it, my order was very spicy, more spicy than I am used to! The atmosphere was very nice and all the patrons seemed to be enjoying their meals. Alachi Masala is very classy.

They have dinner specials for 20 which includes an appetizer, entree with rice and dessert. Everything we had seemed freshly made and contained full of flavor.
