I really enjoyed my stay at the HI New York Hostel. I was there for a period of 2 weeks. I wasn't even sure of my exact dates of checking out and Patrick at the reception was very understanding of my situation and was flexible enough to add and subtract the dates of stay. Additionally, due to COVID, all the rooms had just one person, so I was the only one in a room meant for 6 people. All the sheets and pillow cases and towels were fresh and clean. I could request for towels anytime and was gladly given one. There are very small downsides that are with this hostel; one being the bathroom outside of my room (in my case) which meant that I had to mask up every time I stepped out of my room even for a quick visit to the bathroom. But apart from that, the hostel staff was very friendly, the whole place was very neat and clean and pretty much better what you would expect in a hostel.

As a budget traveler, for me this was a place just to sleep, shower and had roof over my head. Staff was friendly. Location is amazing. A few notes: Beds are uncomfortable, sleeping on a thin sponge you'll very feel bed's construction. In mid December room was very hot. In bathroom there were cockroaches roaming. Make sure to bring some slippers.

One star for a one-star hotel (that’s generous). You get what you pay for, I suppose. What else do you expect for 24 a night? Keep your dignity and go somewhere else if you have the option.
The worst place I have ever been. The guy in the reception gave me 2 times the wrong room (with people inside). There is no internet in the rooms, only in the living room. The rooms are not clean and so hot that you could't sleep. The restrooms are not nice (no toilet paper, no soap). The alcohol gel was diluted in water (it is almost water). Please find other place to stay.
Ok, the location is very good. Only a few minutes from the metro. The price for New York comparing other places is very cheap and reasonable. It is a good spot to meet new people. The building needs a little renovation. For example I hadn't got a plug next to my bed which is a big problem. Second, no lockers in the room which is not acceptable for a sharing room.
Dirty and disgusting place. The man at the desk didn’t have change and I had to wait for him to go outside to get it. The room wasn’t cleaned and the sheets we’re not changed. I asked for my money back and was told I couldn’t get it. Stay away from this place.
