What is not to like? A culinary adventure featuring almost countless different preparations and ingredients. A cozy and intimate space and relatively few considerations you have to make, allowing you to focus more on the food itself (and the beverages if you decided to pair it) Speaking of the drink pairings, if you are a fan of funky and wild style beers or wines, look no further. I had some extremely interesting wines , beers, sakes with the pairing.

Great small plate, they are very accommodating when you have food allergies, they made up a completely different dinner set. I would recommend the wine pairing also they did a fantastic job of matching the current food sets with the perfect wine.

I was very impressed with the service from the hostess. Most are friendly, take you to your seat, hand the menu, and maybe slip in a nice comment - but at Contra, we had indicated that we had a pregnancy guest on the reservation and the hostess went above and beyond to explain the items that may be questionable for a pregnant guest and offered alternatives as soon as she seated us. I thought this was excellent and showed the staff expertise even from a hostess level. The waiter and everyone else who delivered the food were also great, as expected. The food was interesting, delicious at times and just okay at times. We weren’t impressed with the house-made (?) sparking water or the additional cheese dish (for extra charge). loved the bread, but my favorites were the desserts. (Sorry for bad quality photos)

Set menu - Food was overall ok! We liked the tofu and dessert most. The other two dishes with crab meat and skate fish were a bit too salty. Beef steak was tender, but lack of flavor. The serving was quite slow perhaps due to full seating. Be prepared to wait for each dish...

Really lovely place and a great meal! We came here for a birthday and had a great experience. It's a 7 course set menu with an option to have a cheese course for an added cost. Each dish is thoughtful and creative, and everything was cooked perfectly. We opted for one course of the cheese which was really good but not sure I'd do it again as it is 11 for a piece of cheese. Anyways, service is great and attentive, drinks are good, and this is all around a good gem in the lower east side.
