Are you coming back? Please do! I miss beef pan fried noodles there and Joe’s Shanghai(new location) doesn’t have it

Location: this restaurant is located at Pell St, the heart of Chinatown. I had a doctor appointment in Chinatown this weekend and had to grab a quick lunch in the area. Very easy to find the spot. Food: Highly recommend trying their scallion pancakes and crabmeat soup dumplings. Their scallion pancakes are the best I’ve ever had in NYC! It has the perfect crisp edges yet also a chewy texture. Environment: the restaurant is very clean and has comfortable seating. Their big round tables are perfect for group gathering. Price: GSH is very affordable consider the food portion and quality. I also got a free order of pork soup dumplings since they are running a grand opening promotion. Service: I got seated immediately the moment I walked into the restaurant. The waiters walked around to make sure everything was ok. I will definitely go back when I’m in Chinatown again.

Is this Joe’s Shanghai? No it is not. Joe’s moved to a newer larger location and the prices reflect that. Is this place serving the same soup dumplings and scallion pancakes we know and loved? Yes it is. Supposedly the chef is the same. Based on my experience last night, I would not be surprised. For all you former Joe’s lovers, this is honestly a good thing. It’s the same soup dumplings except now you can walk in and be seated right away because the name changed. Service was awesome. There was a small issue with one of our orders but the servers more than made up for it. Absolutely would recommend.

The former location of Joe's Shanghai, this place had a lot to live up to. Short answer is yes, soup dumplings are delicious! Many other dishes are flavorful and delicious including the shumai and crispy pork chops.

Not the same! The lady out front telling everyone it’s the same and it’s not. Go to the other location “the real one!!! 46 Bowery.. me and my partner and some friends from out of town came here and it was just greasy and really had no taste. We asked for water like 6 times and they just nodded and walked away so we had no drinks at all the entire meal, yet the people a crossed from us got tea and water right when they sat down, and! We kept asking for the rice and they would just nod and walk away so we didn’t get rice that we ordered. But when we asked if it was the same they said yes “same owners and chef” but the taste of the food said otherwise. So I’m not a fan of lying to people to get them to eat at your place let alone terrible service. Just tell the truth, it’s not the same. And that’s sad you have to lie to people to get them to eat at your place

We want to like this place but we did not. The crab steamed buns we ordered taste artificial, like full of msg. It was also too fat and too oily. Soup inside dumplings were also too thick. taste not healthy. We will not be back. Lady behind counter also look very angry.
