I stayed here in July of 2018. PLEASE RESEARCH THESE REVIEWS BEFORE BOOKING YOUR STAY. There is a reason this place is so affordable for being located in midtown manhattan. It’s a unique experience that many would consider an absolute nightmare. It was a decent fit for me because I was traveling alone and out in the city all day, so I really needed a place to sleep and shower by myself. The rooms are literally 15 6’x4’ closets crammed into a long NYC loft. Quite frankly, I’m surprised this place is legal and it’s the kind of thing you’d expect to find on a third world country. That being said, the staff was extremely kind, and upon returning home late every night always came out of the office to check in if I was okay. I appreciated the care. The other reviews are right, aside from the 4 thin walls you sleep in and the door with a pad lock you use to protect yourself, there is absolutely no privacy. The bathrooms are communal/co ed, and the “rooms” have no ceiling so there is no sound proofing. You can hear *everything* in every room. If you need a CHEAP space to lay your head and don’t mind truly roughing it, this will do. If you have any hope for a relaxing hotel experience, this is NOT for you. The reason this gets a 3 star instead of a 1 star is I think it delivers on what it promises: a hyper cheap and potentially-illegal sleeping location in the heart of NYC.

This hostel is definitely one of the worst ones I've stayed at for the price, even in NYC. There are no "rooms". It's more like a bunch of tents in a large auditorium. Sounds come from everywhere at night and the beds are tiny. If youre taller than 5'9" prepare to sleep curled up a bit. The food is nice, but they even asked to be paid in cash. Next day the IRS/NYC auditors showed up while we were in the room, which I asume is one reason they asked for cash.

Pardon the mess, forgot to take picture on the first day. Overall the little space I have is pretty nice, i kind of like this kind of small area where i get my own privacy. The toilet however can be made better. The shower place doesnt have enough pressure, the water flow so slowly... Another annoying part is when neighbour have alarm in the morning and they never wake up to it. The whole world was awake except the guy who set the alarm, which is annoying

Small, frugal, simple. There is no impressive comforts but the lone traveller will lack nothing in terms of basic needs. You can sleep, shower, and keep your stuff safe while in New York on a budget. It is conveniently situated near Penn Station, the Port Authority, and Chelsea Market. The staff on hand are also very amicable. Will return should I have an opportunity to do so.

So, first, the good: Staff is very kind and accommodating, and they really make an effort to provide fresh fruit that is really delicious; more than your standard apples and bananas. While I was here, they provided strawberries, blackberries, lots of dried fruit, and plenty of snacks. Cool if you're on a super budget, and let's be real, if you're staying here, you're budgeting. Now the bad: If you're expecting to have more than a tiny cubby to sleep in or you're anything taller than 6 feet, you are going to have a bad time. The beds here are kind of... Custom. They're cots in what can best be described as a communal shanty. Bathrooms are kinda musty, but seem to be clean. (For a hostel, not bad) That being said, if I'm ever back in NYC for longer than one night.... I'd probably spend the extra money for a real bed.

This place is okay value for a good location, but definitely has its cons too. After hours the neighborhood is a bit dodgy, and you need to call on the phone to be let in, so there are a few minutes of standing outside feeling somewhat unsafe. There is one flight of stairs that is a bit steep to climb. Staff on Sunday mornings is not very knowledgeable, the wifi was out and it was a bit hard to communicate in order to have it reset. The individual pods are too small to fit a suitcase, so luggage is left out in the common kitchen area. Sheets smell of disinfectant the place is run by a Krishna society group, heavily decorated and equipped with Hare Krishna literature, with images from other faiths interspersed to make it "interfaith". The breakfast area is fruit, popcorn, bread and butter.
