IAL is truly a special place, and I don't say that lightly. I grew up in the neighborhood, and I've worked professionally with youth for over 25 years. When you get to know the students, staff and families of IAL, you come to realize that this place is very much \A Family\. The love and care that is taken to every detail of creating a place where children can learn and become individuals of good character is readily apparent. It was founded by folks with deep roots in the neighborhood for the people of the neighborhood. In my line of work, the challenges of helping inner-city children of color overcome their obstacles can be daunting as an individual professional, but in IAL I've found a team that not only \gets it\ but \lives the mission\ each and every day. I've shared some pics from one day in the life at IAL. You have to come and experience this place for yourself, but I can tell you there isn't a place quite like it.

Inwood Academy for Leadership is an awesome place for young people to go and grow! We have students who care for their classmates and for students around the world. Here is a picture of our 6th graders with Rahsaan Graham. They raised enough money to buy 2 goats and 4 chickens after learning how important animals are to families in other countries.
The best high school in Washington Heights. This school offers an excellent foundation for continued success. Every child that attends is introduced into an environment that fosters a deep desire to learn. Every child that attends is equipped to be a leader in their environment and encouraged to make the choice to be an asset for their community. To join in with the residents new and old to grow the community to be a beacon of light for the rest of the city. The teachers that Labor Day in and day out truly care for the children that are Intrusted to them. These teachers give all they have because they are equipped with the support and are given the necessary resource to achieve success. I love the environment, I love the teaching and I mostly love the great leader that pours her heart and soul into making certain that continued advancement to excellence Is always being pursued.
This is surely the best high school in the Heights. It true offers a deep foundation for the success of it's students not only now but for their future. It's a joy to interact with the staff. So excited to see the beautiful leaders that will grow out of this establishment.
Amazing school. Staff Is fully dedicated to students and their future. Have never seen a school where the majority of the students have at least one adult who checks on their well being consistently. Overall a warm and welcoming learning environment.
