I downloaded the livewith app and had a great experience with their personal concierge service (which is an optional service). You can swipe through roommates and search for apartments in the app, but since I had limited time, I opted for the extra service. I am very picky when it comes to roommates because I've had some pretty bad experiences in the past, but I am really happy with the roommate my personal concierge helped me find. She also found an apartment that my new roommate and I absolutely love! Definitely give this app a try if you're looking for a roommate and an apartments in NYC. If you feel like you don't have time to search on your own, I would highly recommend upgrading to the personal concierge service - they offer a full refund if they are not able to find you a suitable roommate and apartment, so there is no risk!
