I've always loved this gym, but this last year during the pandemic has shown the willingness, (and capability) to go above and beyond what has been required. The front desk staff has been stalwart under difficult and often changing circumstances. The lifeguard crew has been a real team, first class. Climbing gym, pool, training floor and locker room have all been immaculate. I can't say enough about how hard the entire team has worked. It's been my absolute refuge. Looking forward to seeing it back fully populated. It's clear they have long been prepared, even taking the opportunity to do upgrades and alterations, all beneficial. Not a moment has been wasted. I really like the equipment, everything is well maintained. The trainers are really helpful and will answer any questions. In the summer, the roof deck is fantastic. It's not glamorous but the pool is so nice.

I enjoyed the gym, especially the lap pool. However... After they reopened from the quarantine, I was not comfortable going back to the gym yet. I emailed to put my account on hold and asked "Please call me to discuss the next steps...". Instead they sent me to collections. This is a terrible way for a struggling small business to treat an enthusiastic customer. Zero communication, no respect, take no responsibility, and a hit to my credit! Will not be returning to this gym.

I joined this gym solely for the use of the swimming pool. Afterall, it looks beautiful, there are very few in Manhattan. However, it has a reservation system that after 30 days of trying, you can not succeed in gaining a reservation, or use the pool. If you expect to use a swimming pool, this gym is not a good choice. Furthermore, when I canceled, they charged me for a second month. The membership staff were wonderfully rude about it. It felt like it was an expected event for the staff, and they were not interested. I'm giving 2 stars solely because should they ever change their membership staff and the pool could actually be used one day, it would be very nice.

The highlight of this classy gym is clearly the atrium pool. It is lovely on sunny days, but it’s kind of creepy after sunset. I recommend clear goggles if you’re swimming then. The pool has good lighting at least. The cardio room is also great. I don’t have much to comment on there. My only issue is the male trainers in the weight room will try to “help” without asking and without necessity. I’d never had this experience before and it was annoying. I haven’t been to this gym in a while because I moved away so I don’t know if they still work there. In any case, the weight room has a nice range of equipment and never got too busy.

*EDITED* I highly do not recommend this place. They will overcharge you and try to run your card during 'free' months. I had a referral for the month of February and I had in writing that the month was free. Of course my card was charged February 1st. I had to fight with the staff at MPHC to get that reversed as well as the late fee they charged. Come March....my card is charged double. Stay away from this place. Will edit this review if my issue is fixed but given the above issues I think even staff at MPHC will understand my 1 star review. -Edit- The issue with the double charge was fixed within a couple hours. Seemed like an innocent mistake. Updating the review from 1 star to 4 stars which actually reflects the quality of the gym.

The facility itself is good. But they would say whatever that's not true to get you sign up for the contract and hold you liable for another month because of the two month notice requirement even though you practically cannot use the facility. Trying to communicate with them is totally a waste of time.
