Founded in 2010, Scholarship Plus is a scholarship and college success program for hard-working, low-income high school graduates in New York City. The students we support are not only bright but have also shown great determination in their young lives, distinguishing themselves academically despite economic and personal obstacles. WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT ACADEMIC ADVISING As soon as students are selected as Scholars, we help them refine their college-selection process. Once they have been admitted, we turn to helping them receive the best possible financial packages from their chosen colleges. Further, we monitor students'​ progress throughout college and work to ensure that academic, social and financial issues do not go unattended. INTERNSHIPS New York Public Radio provides six-week paid internship to our Scholars in the summer between high school graduation and the beginning of college. The internship aims to expose students to a good work place with senior mentors willing to advise and coach them. PRE-COLLEGE ORIENTATION During the summer after high school graduation, Scholarship Plus hosts college orientation program to best prepare our Scholars for freshman year in college. Additionally, the program allows them to network with each other and hosts a variety of cultural and educational seminars and events. ONGOING SUPPORT During breaks and summers during college, our Scholars are invited to a series of occasional events sponsored by Scholarship Plus, which continues to counsel them individually about academic choices and career opportunities. SUMMER JOBS Scholarship Plus offers Scholars assistance in finding paid summer jobs during college as well as selective internships, which have become an increasingly important component of the undergraduate years. The program also strives to provide students with stipends when applicable.
