Note that when I say "3*" I mean "decent for the price". Decent if slightly pricey option for basic but tasty protein-centric dishes like roast chicken, short rib pasta, and steak. I would give it another shot but it wasn't very memorable for me compared to some other neighborhood options. I was also really turned off by the not-mask chin-face-shield things that some staff members were wearing. (Basically a face shield/drip guard closed at the bottom rather than the top.)

This place is the epitome of upscale dining with a casual atmosphere. The food is inspired. The cocktails are delicious (I had sampled maybe more than a few), but the best part is the service. The restaurant was packed inside and out and, as an industry worker, I saw two servers handle it all. My camera phone does not do this food justice. We enjoyed the burrata with strawberries and tomatoes, grilled octopus, and roasted eggplant (To perfection) topped with pomegranate seeds to start. And we finished with their scallop special, with cauliflower purée and their Korean BBQ style Steak. Just unreal. If you’re looking for a place to kick back and enjoy everything the UWS has to offer there are very few, if any, places that can match the luxury feeling The Consulate offers.

I love french food, and the french new american cuisine that The Consulate served up was 100% up my alley! i was surprised by how amazing of a dining experience this was ... probably had something to do with the classic decor, the attentive service, and the delicious food and drinks! We ordered... - hand cut steak tartare ( 24) this was my first steak tartare since leaving france it did not disappoint! the beef was not mushy at all, in fact, the structural integrity was well maintained for the size of each cut of beef. The toast was so buttery and had a really glutenous chew. - charred octopus ( 26) loved this! the texture was great, almost "popped" in my mouth. the octopus was well salted, with salt penetrating paste the surface, and the char added a smokey touch. it paired super well with the black garlic puree - crispy maitake mushrooms ( 10) the maitake were super light despite being fried! the edges were crisp but the inside was soft and juicy! an amazing side - wild mushroom gnocchi ( 30) truffle, cream, mushrooms, gnocchi. give me a better combo, i'll wait !!! this was so tasty - I gobbled up more than my fair share - t-bone steak ( \u200b\u200b55) this was half ribeye and half filet mignon. the ribeye was melt-in-your-mouth fatty and perfectly cooked. the filet mignon was more meaty. the baby corns on the side were super sweet and crunchy. this dish came with a super fresh chimichurri that was perfect for cutting through a fatty steak! - tiramisu ( 12) light, whipped, and not too sweet. the strawberries were really fresh as well! this was a huge portion, definitely don't need to get two desserts with this!

Pros: the food is absolutely delicious. Best mussels I've ever had. The fries that came with the steak frites were extra cripsy, as if they had been fried with an extra layer of starch that made for a really pleasant texture. The apple tart was a great way to end, but beware that it is only three bites big. The atmosphere of the restaurant's interior makes this a good date night spot. Cons: The appetizer version of the mussels is definitely an entree size (despite being told otherwise), while the "entree" sized salad was literally 4 bites (and 20 to boot). The inconsistency was annoying, but isn't that surprising for an upscale place.

The branzino was dry as if it was left under the heating lamp too long or just overcooked. The kale and the Brussel sprout salad was purely unimaginative, and the kale was stale and tough. Not to mention there were barely any spouts. And you just poured cheese over it to disguise the fact that there was “nothing there.” One of our friends is difficult with food. Nonetheless, There was no attempt to please her. We ordered the mushroom flatbread, and she cannot have much cheese- the waiter could have suggested that they reduced the cheese or put cheese only on one part of it. He didn't.

This is my favorite place on the UWS. Zdravko is amazing, although we love the whole staff. Food and ambiance are beyond. Always a pleasure ️

Great cocktails but expensive for small portions. Just had the flatbread to eat — good enough. Classy spot for a date night.
