Very nice food, service and attention (even for a takeout meal). Their Restaurant Week meal is highly recommended!

We were shown the menu and taken orders before seating so the food came immediately as we sat down which was so convenient of us. The venue was impressive! I couldn't ask for more! Everything was great especially their staff, they accommodated us professionally and well-mannered. Thank you so much for the genuine service.
Sat in the bar area and loved the experience. We decided to sit at the bar area (5 of us at the table) vs. the actual dining room since I have an energetic 2 yr old who occasionally yells and screams. :) Bread was delicious and butter was amazing (complimentary). We ordered lamb skillet, burger, grilled shrimp, pancakes, and calamari (appetizer). From what we ordered, I have to say the pancake was the best. It was so fluffy and good! Burger was also good, but it’s not the best and would not go there just for a burger. Calamari was fresh and flavorful. Coffee was also very good too! It was bright and bitter. Service was also very friendly and attentive. Gratuity is already included.
IT’S A DEFINING DETAIL, the fact this fine eatery’s staff accept no tips, and I love that. The food is ably and handsomely presented but stays well within mainstream culinary custom: nothing on the plates are aggressively vertical or tortured into abstract sculptures. The room itself is handsome, while pleasing to the eye and built for comfort. But it is the staff truly distinguishes the cafe got me. They know their stuff, and more. There’s an elan I sense and I think the living wage ethos of this Danny Meyer venue is the main reason.
It’s very unfortunate to leave a one star here because I have been dying to go to one of Danny Meyers restaurant after reading his book setting the table. This restaurant is discriminative!!!!! Well, at least the manager/hostess in the front with short black hair. The restaurant was empty but a few business attire people were seated in the dinning area. I asked if we can sit in the dinning room and she said no, only at the bar area. You had to make reservations to sit in the dining area. Ok... I go on the phone and what do you know, every slot is open to make a reservation so I proceed to do so and she refused for us to sit in the dining area! They should take their own advice on customer service. I was boosting this place to my girlfriend before you arrived there and its sad that we got treated that way. I reached out to union square hospitality group and they “cared” so much that we invited me back for a drink..... I been going to many types of restaurants especially Michelin star and no one should be treated and embarrassed that way. Just because I didn’t have a suit on, doesn’t mean someone can’t afford your average quality cuisine.
