One of the coolest breaks in So Cal. Crazy shore break locations that can get upwards of 20’ during right conditions. Not suggested for families with younger kids as the beach is a little steeper and the water rushes back out rather fast. I’ve see grown adults get swept off their feet just standing in ankle high water. It is a beautiful spot to spectate the surfers, body surfers and body boarders when the waves are huge!

Don't try this at home. Body surfing shore breaks require expertise. For a safer body surfing, surfing, or body boarding experience in Newport, head to West Newport, West of the Newport Pier, where the waves break farther out due to a less steep bottom slope, resulting in *not* hitting the sand, unless you are expert in surfing shore breaks. The Wedge is the shore break of shore breaks, because the jetty forces the waves to wedge up, and they slam directly into the sand on the steeper sloped bottom. Awesome spot to watch experts surf big barrels right here in So Cal.

No real ocean swells on this day but still an area where too can see the jetty and how the swells pump up

I recently was invited here with my friends & I've never seen this place, it's really nice, just like the neighborhood. It's also fun walking on the rocks, kind of like hiking (When the waves aren't hitting high)

Beautiful! We went here to shoot () the bioluminescence earlier this year, but the spot is so well lit that it wasn't great to see or capture whatever you could see. The waves were CRAZY! I don't surf but it was beautiful to see and to hear. It's really easy to sit here because of the way the sand forms, so we sat and just enjoyed hearing the waves crash. We went right when the shut downs started and people were respecting social distancing.

Not too busy usually. Popular spot for body surfers (brave ). The big rock canal divider creates a unique powerful waves that shake the ground at times during strong waves. Was amazing to witness A little further west there are plenty of seashells graveyard to enjoy along the coastline.

The Wedge is a famous surf spot on the end of the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. It is called the Wedge because of the wedge shaped waves that form. Some reviews by surfers say the waves can be so big they knock you off your feet! Waves can get up to 30 feet.

Amazing place to see and hear the waves crashing. Beautiful view and a nice beach but not somewhere to swim if you don't know what you're doing. Also great for surfing but better for those who are experienced. Parking is along the streets as you drive out Balboa peninsula but watch the signs in the morning because the sweep the streets on Mon and Wed and side streets on Tues. Definitely check it out!
