Down the street from all the chaos on the bayfront. Only 5 bucks to get in. So informative. Amazing artifacts. Beautiful building. Nice people. Souvenirs. Tours.

Joyce was very friendly & informative. The 2nd floor is available for events with a modest rental fee. The basement is still under construction. The deck (all floors actually) have wonderfully stunning views. They have a good interactive corner for kids where they can touch things & it's ok! Lol as a parent, this is always wonderful in a museum. The visit can be as quick or slow & laid back as desired. Do only see myself returning for an event or special showcase/display though.

Well maintained and educational local maritime museum. Make sure you watch the coast guard story down in the theatre, an epic sea yarn!

This a great place to visit in Newport! The museum is small and can probably be covered in about an hour, but there is a lot to learn and it is curated beautifully. They do a great job of covering Newport’s rich maritime history and the exhibit on commercial fisheries is great. We also enjoyed the art displays. I don’t think this is the best stop for young children, as it is largely informational (not very interactive). We enjoy taking visitors here, and as an added bonus, the building provides a beautiful view of the bay front.

Watching the keeper feed the giant western squid was superb. I have never seen anything like it seeing the squid wrap its arms around the keepers arms and watch the keeper gently put off the suckers one by one while freeing herself was astounding. Many other interesting and informative interactive exhibits.

Nice lady working at the desk. We picked up a copy of Oregon Coast Quests and completed the one nearest the museum. Fun!

Amazing little museum on the hill. Focused on the history of Newport and the Oregon Coast, primarily on the history of the fishing industry. BEST VIEW OF THE BAYFRONT YOU CAN GET! Their enormous 2nd floor balcony overlooks the entire harbor and is great for watching ships come and go, or taking a look at some of the sea lions bobbing in the bay. This place also hosts weddings and other large events.
