Super fun environment. Those lobster nachos were something crazy, delicious, VERY filling. The drinks were unique and of good strength ;). service was really good. Personally I didn't much like the coconut shrimp wrap, but it was made as advertised.

The ambient is great. Gives good bar vibes. Food is great especially appetizers are great. One of the best place for appetizers. Would have given 5 star if main course was as great as appetizers.

Red parrot has always been a good go to in Newport. I will say, they sure do turn away business during covid. RI/Newport bars are now open and they wouldn’t let us sit at the bar unless we bought food this past weekend. It was hardly even packed. We had just come from midtown oyster and black pearl, both of which do not have the food requirement, so it was disappointing that we had to leave because we “had to buy food”. Would’ve easily sat there and spent 100, but the hostess wouldn’t budge, so we had to leave.

The Red Parrot Restaurant in scenic Newport, RI offers visitors some typical food at seaside prices. The service was awful. It took forever for a server to come over to our table. The French onion soup was bland and lukewarm. Maybe a half a pound of cheese on top too. Also the fried calamari was rubbery and cold. My wife ordered the mussels and clam soup which was unreal! My only complaint with this dish is that only give you 1 small crostini. You'll need at least 3 to help finish this bowl of deliciousness.

I’d like to preface this review with the fact that I’ve been to Red Parrot one other time and I loved it (the drinks and service were fantastic). This afternoon, I decided to bring a few friends visiting Newport for the first time, and had been talking up Red Parrot. 2 of us stopped in for a few drinks (as we were waiting for the 2 others that were shopping to join us), and told the hostess there would be 4 of us. We were told there would be a 25 minute wait - no problem! The hostess gave us a buzzer and we walked out. When it was time for us to be seated, we came back, and she promptly told us that the entire party needed to be at the bar to be seated. Wish she had told us that up front, but again, not a big deal. The other 2 were at a shop next door so I told her I was going to call and have them come right over. While on the phone (less than 20 seconds) she gave the table to another party. She then told us she wasn’t sure when another table would be available, and told us we needed to leave and wait outside. Very poor customer service, in a time that restaurants & bars should be doing everything they can to keep loyal customers. Hope the hostess is provided with better training.
