Easy walk, with plenty of street parking at the moment, it’s located next to valley college. I may do this again, super easy very little incline and not overcrowded. Nice mural.

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2017, the Great Wall of Los Angeles is one of the largest murals in the world. Depicting the history of California, it is 13 feet high and 2,754 feet long, stretching over half a mile. It is located in a section of the Tujunga Flood Control Channel parallel to Coldwater Canyon Blvd, between Oxnard St and Burbank Blvd. It was painted by hundreds of young people and artist supervisors between 1976 and 1984. Muralist Judith Baca, working with the Social and Public Art Resource Center (SPARC), was primarily responsible for the design. Plans to continue the history of California beyond the 1950s are in the works. The mural will be a mile long when sections for the 1970s through the 1990s are complete.

A civic treasure hiding in plain sight! One of the longest murals in the world! It’s a supreme joy to walk along this relatively unknown half-mile-long mural and soak in the centuries of California history that are shown. There is so much passion and love in this mural, depicted from the perspectives of different cultural groups and different historic eras, and painted by more than 400 SoCal youth. I particularly enjoyed the panels on the migrant experience, the citrus industry, the birth of rock and roll, and the African American experience. This is a fantastic hidden gem in LA that lovers of art, history, culture, and diversity shouldn’t miss.
