Among the many pleasures of living in Montgomery County is wandering the public trails among creeks throughout the county. Today, I entered the Muddy Branch Trail at Darnestown Road (Route 28) and strolled about a mile or so down the creek. Along the way I saw a fox, hawks riding the breeze just above the trees and much beauty along the creek. All good.

Beautiful trail. A bit over used. A little muddy in some spots. Tunnel is fun

This is a nice location to park to take a walk along the Muddy Branch stream. The greenway is really an oasis in the Middle of Montgomery Co. From this location, you can walk south \ish\ for about 10 miles to the Potomac River. It is most lovely in the early Spring, when wildflowers can look like snow, and late fall when you have nice views through the forest. The picture below shows the parking that is available next to this trail entrance.

Lose yourself in a plush forest full of fairies. OK, I actually haven't seen any fairies, but if they exist they will be found in this forest. There are so many beautiful trails here for hiking, running, horseback riding, and mountain biking. There are also numerous streams and areas to just sit and reflect. The area is mostly only known to locals, so it never feels crowded and I've never seen a creepy person there. Most importantly, it seems that people are very respectful of not littering nor dumping things, so it's a very clean area as well.

This is a great out and back trail for running, hiking, biking, etc. It gets crowded is my only complaint but it's beautiful and you can get a nice long run in.
