The historical observatory in the middle of Carleton's campus. It offers open houses for public astronomy outreach on the first Friday of every month (weather permitting - see the website for updates). The nights are staffed by students and professors at the college and use the observatory's historical 16 and 8 inch refracting telescopes and more modern reflectors outside. Other than the public nights, the field behind the observatory is one of the best places to go stargazing since it is so protected from the outside lights of the campus. There are also exhibits of meteorites and historical astronomy pictures in the rotunda inside that is open during the day. It's worth stopping by if you're in the area and like old telescopes, although it is worth noting that you have to park at the edge of campus and walk in

Went to the open house on Friday with my 4 year old daughter. It was so much fun and the organizers were very nice and patient with my daughter as she was quite excited and asking so many questions! Thanks again for the great experience!
A very cool observatory featuring a 16" telescope under it's biggest dome that still has it's original hand-cranked motion. The observatory building itself is worth the trip, with excellent craftsman-era woodwork and lots of cool displays in the main foyer. There are monthly(?) stargazing nights that are open to the public; well worth the trip!
Star gazing once a month. And a Pokemon gym.
