Like most (all?) colleges in Oakland, in the bay Area, the Laney campus está cerrado for in-person, on-site learning right now (012921) and will remain so indefinitely. Nonetheless, \instruction\ continues, and it is still posible to be stimulated by some of the best, most conscious, caring, and committed to student growth facultad en el mondo. Some of them doing all that they can to structure and provide meaningful, engaging, life supporting learning opportunities using course \shells\, Zoom windows, YouTube videos and whatever else they can find that helps someone do and be the best learner, the best person they can. As a deprived swimmer, who first began to learn how in the Laney College outdoor pool, I am haunted by its current disuse, knowing full well how easily and almost effortlessly it could be transformed into a site of health, healing, and sheer joy. Bringing great benefit to the community, the college balance sheet, the district's mission, and by way of every deprived, depressed, frustrated swimmer who would be thrilled to have a safe, spacious, affordable place to immerse herself in a heated (yes, it IS!) pool right now. ¡Qué lastima! Laney admins and faculty, you can do this. The way is already known. If you have the will...
