Good for kids
A fairly easy uphill hike. It's steep, but not overly so. The path is clear, but a little rough in some spots. Watch your footing so you don't roll your ankle. It's a fairly short hike to the top, and definitely worth it for the view! We saw several hawks in the area, lots of flowers and butterflies, a weird looking dragonfly with a white body (don't recall ever seeing one that looked like that), little metallic green flies, and several other cool looking bugs. The top is unique in its layering. There is plenty of space for multiple people to be up there taking in the view. That said, when we were ready to head back down, far too many people showed up at the same time. The parking lot was full, and there were four or five vehicles parked on the road. The path here is very narrow, and doesn't work well when people are going up and down at the same time. Worth the visit! A couple Pokestops here, no gyms.

A short hike with some good up hill climbing. The trail is narrow and overgrown in the beginning but the dense goldenrods and dotted canopy of trees lend to the charm of this hike. At one point a prairie dog came right to my feet before we both startled. The trail widens where it becomes wooded upper with interesting rock structures and a great Vista overlooking Ennis Lake. A short hike offers lots of time to meander and take in the scenery.
This is an amazing Wisconsin treasure, not only for its association with John Muir, but for its unique geological and biological presence in an otherwise rolling glacial landscape. Observatory Hill is a stand-alone, rocky extrusion of basalt that juts out of the prairie, providing high rocky ridges and promontories with astounding views in an otherwise flat area. Looking south, it's possible to see across three counties. The natural area also contains some very interesting trees and plants. The heights are densely populated with Red Cedar and Hickory trees, and many nicely worn trails allow access to nearly the entire feature. I've you've not visited it before, it is well-worth a drive, particularly in the Spring and Fall when the foliage allows broader views.
Excellent place to hike and relax. The views are incredible! My husband and I hiked the trails and then biked to John Muir Memorial Park which is also nearby. You won’t find a better place to take in the fall colors. Stunning area!
Amazing views, great for kids. The hike up isn't too bad.
