I chose Jolly Roger (first buy) because jar was 10oz instead of 8. They were mediums but when I opened and dumped into strainer to rinse, out plopped two HUGE oysters and two shredded little pieces and lots of fluid. Not sure how they crammed those big oyster into in jar, but because of all the fluid I decided to weigh the oysters. Total weight was 7.1 oz a long way from 10. Since trying to feed two, I cut big oysters into 4 pieces to bread and fry. To our dismay not only were not very good, we had to spit out some really fibrous parts that we could not chew. Never had that experience with oysters in my life. I called distributor and while very apologetic, they said since retail sale they had no way to credit, but would address with packers on line. If you read other reviews mine is not alone. I am driving 50 miles to buy directly from local farm that I know. No more retail buys.

Good oysters but lots of shell fragments.

Have now gotten three jars of these fresh oysters over the last year, and every time they are consistently very fresh and delicious. Really good value for under 6. At most seafood restaurants you would pay 3-4 for each oyster, whereas here you get them for about 1.

Purchased Jolly Roger Pacific Oysters in the medium size. Prepared them with a prime rib dinner for 3. Purchased them at VONS Market in Carlsbad. 2 hours after dinner I started to get the shakes and the cold sweats. About 2 1/2 hours later was sick. Horribly sick. I called my friends who were at the dinner and they too were sick. Obviously it was the oysters. I have made Oysters Rockefeller a thousand times in the past and never experienced what I did last night. Needless to say they were bad although they smelled fine at the time. I called VONS this morning and told them about it and suggested they should put their remaining stock in the back room and return them just in case but they didn't seem to care. Since the oysters were all used (all 3 of them to a jar) I was told they couldn't refund my money since I used them all. I wasn't looking for a refund. I was just warning them the oysters could be bad and I would hate for anyone to suffer a similar fate, or worse. As a consumer I should be guaranteed a safe product. Not only by the manufacturer but also their representative. Also, there is no internal seal which the buyer has to remove get to the product. So it is not sealed as well as it should be. This morning I am much better. But for about 6 hours I was in bad pain.

This Company doesn't stand behind their product. My mom purchased a jar of their oysters and was unable to open the jar. She had several people try to no avail. After calling the company, explaining what happened, their customer service office only had to say "There is nothing we can do for you" Is this a company you want to purchase from, one that can not help an elderly consumer who has multiple time purchased their product?? The gentleman did add that they would check with the machine that say the lids to see if it was making them too tight.
