Being from Hawaii I was one of the rare individuals who never got into surfing when I was younger, and never have I regretted that decision more than when I went out onto the water with my instructor Egan. Professional, super friendly, and just an all around positive person he answered all of my questions and had me standing up on that board in no time. I only wish that my lesson was longer than the scheduled 2 hours, and my hope is to get in at least one more before I fly back home. Duran the owner was also super attentive and made sure to check in on me for the next couple of days after my lesson. All in all I couldn't have asked for a better first surfing experience. Highly recommend these guys, great value and it will exceed all of your expectations

Duran was so amazing with my nanny kiddo!!!!! He made sure she was comfortable the entire time and really helping her get outside her comfort zone in the water. SO stoked she finally got out there past the white wash where she normally surfs! We really want to help her gain more confidence to push herself more out in the water!!! We know she is capable of it and so does she, Duran did a great job giving her the push she needed!!!! She was so happy and had such a great time! We did the 1:1 90 minute coaching session! Duran is highly professional, organized and thorough. Very smoothly run business with great instructors. I’ve surfed twice with Egan and found the beginner lessons very worthwhile. Definitely worth the money! Surfboards and wetsuits included in lessons which is SUPER convenient. Will definitely be going back.
I had my first ever surf lesson with Egan and it was a lot of fun. Egan was very kind, helpful and a good teacher. It took me a while to finally get the concepts but Egan was patient. I’d definitely book another session. Also, wetsuit was supplied and the communication from step 1 of buying the lesson to meeting up with Egan was clear and easy to follow. At the moment they only accept cash or Venmo.
This experience was the highlight of the trip for my son, more than Disneyland, California Adventure, and Universal Studios! This was extremely beneficial for his confidence building and he still talks about it as a top moment in his life. Duran was very slow to explain this and ensured the 12-year old's safety was a top priority. He cheered him on and made him feel like he was so special. He even took my GoPro and got some amazing in-ocean footage of him! This was a once in a lifetime opportunity, I cannot recommend it enough!
My niece relocated to the area from Boston one month ago and learning to surf was on her bucket list. She had her 2nd lesson today. She is having a blast, learning the mechanics on and off shore! The staff is patient, fun, knowledgeable and professional. Today she called and said she did GREAT with bigger waves. I contacted the surf shop to purchase a gift certificate for her. They responded immediately and advised me on the perfect lesson for her. They presented, per my request, the gift certificate with my message after her group lesson. She was over the moon. They took their customer service above and beyond by contacting her after her lesson to see how it went! I never heard of such a thing! Highly highly recommend! 10 out of 5 stars in all categories! We had a great surf session with Egan (recently transplanted from Hawaii). North County met us at the beach with all the gear we needed to get into the surf. We tried it on our own another day and it was definitely not the same. Good value working with North County Surf Academy! Thanks. We'll be back.
