I've been a Smitty's customer since I bought my first mower at the age of 14. Over the past 20 years they've been helpful in the sense that they've carried decent equipment and either stocked common parts or could get them quickly. I've always known to stay away from them if you need service/repair, however, I had a salt spreader that had a warranty that just expired and needed service. I coordinated with the manufacturer to ship replacement parts free of charge as long as I brought the spreader in to Smitty's and had them verify the parts needed to be replaced. I called the service department manager to let him know of the arrangement and that I'd be coming in to have it looked at. I brought the spreader in and he asked that I leave it and he would get to it when they could. I politely told him all he needed was to take a few pictures of the damaged parts, send to the manufacturer and I'd be on my way. The manager immediately became hostile and suggest I go elsewhere. After trying to discuss with him the inconvenience it would be to leave my spreader (which is attached to my truck, meaning I'd have to leave my truck) he proceeded to tell me to leave immediately or he would call the cops. This man needs to be immediately removed from a position which his job requires any sort of interaction with customers.

Everyone is awesome and knowledgeable as usual. Except Rebecca. She was at the service desk. A service tech and a service guy stepped outside for 1 minute to listen to a noise. They said it was the clutch but to use it until it goes out. Then replace at that time. I thanked them and proceeded to leave... I heard Rebecca reprimanding the tech before I even walked out. She said ever do that again.. you never give a customer free help\ I spoke to the manager and he said hopefully its an isolated occurance. The senior service manager was out sick which i believe is why she was back there but still... it left a bad taste in my mouth and I left disheartened. Update: so I went straight to van wall to get a second opinion. They are the best ever!!!! The tech had my whole machine taken apart in under a minute while I stood there with him! He checked the valve spacing and everything else. He also spent 45 min explaining everything to me. I couldn't believe it. I told them about my smittys experience and they were put to shame by van wall. I could go on for 10 paragraphs about how much they helped me out. Amazing! I have a new favorite shop!!

If you want good lawn equipment go to Smitty's. If you want a good sales experience, go somewhere else. Sales staff isn't very nice. They offered less extended warranty than manufacturer website has on the piece of Husqvarna equipment I bought. Their premix fuel is 50% more expensive than anywhere else in town; I told them that hoping there would be a better offer and guy just said \Uh huh!\. They didn't have the second attachment for the piece of equipment with it when I went in to pick it up, and I had to ask before they went to the back room and got it for me. And barely a thanks as I paid. They had what I wanted which is what counts I suppose.....

Picked up Zero Turn mower that was in for repairs. 4-5 bolts NOT screwed in and tightened. Only hand started 2 or 3 threads. This is not a complete repair. Un acceptable!

Have always had good service from Smittys. My biggest concern when I took my snow blower for service and picked it up, not one person in the service area was wearing a mask. There’s a pandemic going on and there is a Johnson county mask mandate and still not one person wore a mask. It’s quite discouraging the lack of concern for customers.
