Kurt was extremely knowledgeable and so intelligent with his word choice while teaching the avalanche course. Pat also shared a calm collectiveness to the group. The class was extremely informative and enjoyable. Staying in the yurts with their après ski was also a good reason to choose this hut avy course! Thanks Kurt and Pat

We arrived on Sat morning to meet Andrew with SJMG to go out for the day...he is just an absolute GEM! He is so prepared and organized. He called me twice leading up to Sat to check in, see what our expectations were so he could design a fun and SAFE day for us. He called the night before to make sure everything was still the same and to see if there was anything else he should know about before heading out. He was right where he said he would be Sat morning and he helped get us to the lodge to drop stuff off before heading up the mountain. I can't say enough amazing things about Andrew. His attention to detail and concern for each member of our group and their individual ability level was remarkable. He was thoughtful and calculated on where we were going and what we would ride. In all honesty was scared going into the backcountry this weekend because conditions are so sketchy but NEVER ONCE on Sat did I feel afraid or concerned because I was confident that we were in excellent hands. His pace was amazing, he is hilarious/friendly/knowledgeable... I mean this is the guy I wanted to go backcountry with. THANK YOU for pairing our team with him, it made the day absolutely incredible and we can't wait to tour with Andrew again and again.
I had an awesome experience with San Juan Mountain Guides! Their introduction to ice climbing course was perfect for me to get proper instruction on the techniques involved with climbing ice. Coming from a background of rock climbing and already having some experience in rope work and equipment usage I still learned a ton. My guide, Aaron Livingstone was enjoyable to work with and very knowledgable on any technical questions I asked, and I look forward to potentially taking more advanced courses by San Juan Mountain Guides in the future.
Thank Goodness for the San Juan Mountain Guides. After rock climbing for several years while living in Arkansas, I finally moved to Colorado and have been wanting to follow my dream of ice climbing/winter mountaineering ever since. San Juan Mountain Guides helped that come to fruition. They had classes available during the Ouray Ice Festival and I signed up for an intermediate Ice climbing course (since I have ice climbed a few times before that). Their instruction made HUGE difference in my ice climbing ability and technique in just one day. I went from struggling on most routes to being able to climb without ice tools on easy routes. I worked on my footwork, swing technique, and other things and they had useful information and critique the entire time. Not only that, but they were fun, professional, and just help make the experience everything I was hoping. Now that I ice climb more regularly, I will still take more advanced ice climbing lessons from them because their level of expertise is top notch. Looking forward to some more advanced mountaineering classes as well.
This guide service sets the bar for how things should be done. We have used their services for a backcountry ski trip and a climbing trip and had amazing experiences both times!
