This power plant has changed the landscape of this once peaceful, rural town. Although I objected to the plant being built, I have been successful in organizing quarterly neighbor meetings with CPV. They have been extremely courteous and responsive to neighbor's concerns and questions during our meetings. This is key to keeping communication open. However, in contrast, there has been virtually no communication or follow- up from town officials in Oxford. This leads me to believe that there a complete disregard by the town for the folks in residential zones near the plant . We've had to adjust our expectations of living in Oxford since the plant was built. The noise although fairly low, is constant for the most part. Last year we experienced a false alarm early one morning which included loud sirens and an incredibly frightening, mechanized evacuation voice telling us to remain calm. Very scary to say the least! That said, I am still waiting for town officials to publish an emergency evacuation plan for those of us who live nearby. When the plant was being built, the bridal trail on Riggs Street was hijacked by out of state workers who littered used the lot as a hangout. Unfortunately, the power plant has caused the neighboring homes and property values to plummet. The lower house taxes certainly did not offset the decrease in our home's value.

There have been an increasing number of news stories concerning former Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) Vice President for External Affairs Braith Kelly. Kelly has been indicted in New York for alleged bribes in connection with a power plant in Waywayanda, New York. The investigation into Kelly’s activities have expanded into Connecticut and in Oxford, where CPV is building the Towantic plant.
Good for the state.
No good, using non union labor from Texas. No local workers
Back door deals to get out of paying taxes in town.
