Great place for walks/hikes. Open space allows for everyone to practice social distancing and still have a good time. Fun nature trails, nice dog park, great place to train for events adequate parking solutions. History live here.

If you’re looking for an open-air excursion wrapped up in American history, Sagamore Hill could be your place if you find yourself in Long Island. Close to the scenic water spots of Oyster Bay and its quaint downtown, you’ll find the house and property on top of a nearby hill in an elite and clean neighborhood. While we couldn’t venture indoors due to COVID, we walked around as did many families and a surprisingly large amount of folks with dogs. There is a short but somewhat steep nature trail nearby leading to a lovely beach walk where you can observe oysters in a marsh and tiny black crabs. You can also circle round the Roosevelt houses on the property and lounge a bit, which people did, at safe distance. On a sunny day when the wind is blowing, it can be a restful and relaxing time. Opinions about Teddy abound, but at the very least you can touch and walk in “history,” and the area is safe, well maintained, and a good spur for conversation.

Having grown up in the Oyster Bay are, I have visited Sagamore Hill a lot. The house and museum are interesting and the ranger/guides very friendly and informative. I enjoy going there just as a destination when bicycling or taking a motorcycle ride. Nice walking nature trails and a sense of history. Sometimes they have special events (unfortunately not during this COVID-19 pandemic). Dogs on leashes are welcomed.

We love going to Sagamore Hill. The grounds are beautiful and relaxing. Be sure to take the walk to the sound. There is always something new to learn at this important historical place.

First, this is definitely not a handicapped accessible tour. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Pluses: Beautiful grounds, unique and well restored home, Patrick our guide was terrific and very knowledgeable. Minuses: you need to arrive about 1/2 hour prior to your scheduled tour, the info center has been moved quite a distance from the house, house is very dark and it is sometimes difficult to see in the rooms, it is also very warm, our group (14) was too large to be able to get a good view of rooms while Patrick was explaining items, there is no view of the bay. My husband and I were impressed with the property and the house and how well they are maintained. I am not sure how the drawbacks can be rectified or improved. So, my recommendations would be - wear comfortable shoes, go on a cool sunny day, find out when it is less busy and hope everyone in your group is wearing deodorant. Most importantly, it is definitely worth visiting.
