It is a really nice and tranquil place to visit. You can fish here if you want to (permit required). No real complains about anything here. Plenty to see and do if you are an outdoors kind of person. The lake is gorgeous and lends it self for a great background for landscape photography.

Horsetail has really healthy bass and plenty of pan fish but getting to the best fishing spots is difficult w/o a kayak. People are generally very friendly and keep to themselves. Sometimes there are a lot of kids and families let their kids run wild. But for the most part it's pretty peaceful. Bass are best in the early morning, and it's great fishing for blue gills & pan fish at dusk.
Came here for a picnic with my boys on a beautiful day. We had fun. The lake is beautiful and calming. Not busy at all but had a few people which feels safe enough for me. We will be back.
Best fishing experience Lake shore very close to parking so you don't need to fear closing the park while you fish Very friendly Cook county preserve police Close to Tampier lake fishing and boating center where you can buy your live bait.
Nice place to fish, caught a couple blue gills but bass didnt bite
