I think it is absolute BULL that the system charges you 1.95 processing fee for card payments. I even tried to take my payment into city hall and they cannot accept card for payment. What a SCAM Terrible company and im just waiting for the moment when my neighborhood has another water main break so I am out of water for hours

Missouri American Water company is no doubt the worse company I have ever dealt with! I have tried unsuccessfully to get them to deduct my water bill from my checking account. They have no clue how to do that! I’ve talked with managers to no avail! Sadly, I have no recourse but to take them on and ding them whenever I can. My plans are to contact the TV stations, City Council, and if need be the Congress! It seems to me if they can send an email then can deduct the bill out of a checking account. This is an on going problem. Their website is a nightmare and obsolete. Parkville needs to penalize them big time!
My water was shut off due to a “computer glitch” today - when I moved in last month somehow their computer created 4 different account numbers for me and instead of contacting me to resolve the issue they just shut the water off with no warning. They say they called someone in to turn it back on tonight but it’s been over 2 hours and I haven’t heard from anyone. If I had a choice I would not do business with this company.
Being a customer of American Water has been a huge pain. I had my water turned on June 5, 2019 and received my water bill on 6/19. The company charged me for 14,212 gallons of water. Mind you I have not even moved into my one bedroom apartment yet and no one is living there. I had two service reps come out to make sure nothing was leaking and two separate people confirmed it was not leaking. I have called customer service 7 times and each of the reps agree that it is outrageous for my bill to be that high but nothing has been done. They refuse to lower my bill and keep going in circles of them saying a supervisor will contact me. Poorly ran company and awful customer service. Will be getting a lawyer involved.
This company is incapable of offering solutions to a simple problems like signing up for electronic bills. Customer Service has no clue how to help it’s customers. If I could I would cancel my service completely. Sadly, they are the only water company in town! Thoroughly pissed off! Cannot get a paper bill anymore. Can’t get any help from customer service. They will not let me talk to a supervisor! What’s a person to do????
