Kitsune Kaji
This sushi shop is the highlight of my visit to Pasadena normally. We have always had amazing service, and no troubles. Today was severely different. Both my husband and i have service dogs. We were immediately greeted with the fact that they cannot be in the restaurant. Even after explaining that they were service dogs, we still were told they could not be in with us. Even after explaining that we cannot be denied access anywhere, the manager still tried to deny us access to the bar area. I finally had to read the ADA law out loud to him, to show that we cannot be denied access. We were here for the sushi bar, after all. He explained "i like dogs, but the other customers may not. " over and over. I finally told him if he has such a problem, we will sit in the back of the bar, even though there was only ONE other customer near the front of the restaurant. As soon as we sat down, our dogs know to lay down under the "table" at our feet, and the manager seemed surprised at how well they were behaving. I really love this place, it has my favorite sushi, and atmosphere, but unfortunately, this experience has soured that a lot.
I will return, i will not deny myself good food, but i sincerely hope that they can actually train their staff on the proper etiquette when dealing with service dogs. It is disconcerting when i try to enjoy a day out, especially coming from a ways away, looking forward to a certain thing, and unfortunately not being able to stay because of one experience that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I do want to note, however, I do not want any compensation, nor any special offers or anything like that. I WILL be back, with my dog, as i cannot go anywhere without her. I just want to let people know, so if they have a similar experience, they can let it be vocalized, as well, for anyone with a service dog, that there might be a problem, but still try this place.
