Our group of eight friends traveled over one week in September, 2019. Captain Dennis Rogers has over forty years familiarity with Alaskan waters, as a commercial fisherman and as a passenger tour boat operator. Captain and Mrs. Rogers operate Northern Song, an 84 foot purpose-built passenger motor yacht on a very seaworthy trawler design, and have assembled a very able crew consisting of a first mate/naturalist and an educated able top-notch chef. There is no doubt Captain and crew fully intend as all-inclusive as possible a display of the Frederick Sound, Endicott, and Chatham Straight area of southeast Alaska. From the evening meal ending the first afternoon and continuing throughout, each and every meal gathering was a complete pleasure of delightful textures and flavors, including shrimp, crab and halibut caught during the cruise. Sights included glaciers from float plane and fiord, numerous humpback whales and killer whales, mountain “goats”, bear, salmon, rockfish, halibut, seals and sea lions, totems standing and in creation, a humpback engaged in serial corkscrew breaches, rainbows and sunsets. The crew made sure we were provided knowledge of flora, fauna, and local history and legend. In the end, each and every one of our group was more than pleased. I would go again in another time such as early winter or spring, if only to see differences imparted by season, since I have no doubt of very fine treatment by Captain and crew. Travelers should be prepared for smaller accommodations in rooms other than the master. This is a great enjoyable trip made memorable by people devoted to creating a very fine experience.
