After a tour of the Indian School Saga at the Heard Gallery I had to see the original buildings left over from the experiment to crush the American Indian spirit. It is positive to see the land is now dedicated to the combined Indiginious Nation as a memorial to their service defending all of us. Some original buildings remain to give an impression of how daunting it must have looked to a child. Now the grounds honor their spirit as well as have access to the DAV resources for our current disabled Vets.

Due to the Covid-19 Plague , more homeless are showing up in this area. However most are Bicyclist type homeless which are usually a decent class of people. Yesterday I saw Chief Daryl Sandman of the Navajo Clan there at Steele Reserve Indian Park, Daryl is kind of an historian of the area and he attended school there and his Mother worked at the Indian School. Remember this, that land/park belongs to the Native Americans, be respectful and pick up your trash. Thank You

I consider this a flagship park of the city of Phoenix. The grounds used to be part of the old indian school, hence the name. It's relatively large compared to other city parks. There is plenty of parking. It has a small and large dog area. There's several monuments that commemorate various people and events. Huge amount of green space is available and plenty of shade from trees. It also has ramadas and restroom, although, those are close due to Covid. Homeless people frequent the park. They've never bothered or approached me. If you like fishing, there are a couple ponds to do it. The park is very clean. It seems there is a landscape maintenance team on site. If you haven't been there take it minute to check it out. It's fun even if it's just to walk around.

Beautiful area. Two dog runs. Lakes with wildlife. Plenty of room for social distancing but enjoying being amongst others. Great walks around the perimeter and criss crossing so you enjoy the entire park.

Urban park with ample walking and biking paths, stocked fishing pond and handicap accessible routes. Enjoyed the unique sonoran desert plants and historical signs. Great place for a family picnic.
