Fair warning: I used to work here, and departed on bad terms, so this is a biased review. The SEI does no Engineering, but it is definitely an Institute - a place where managers go to retire, and where software engineers who aren't good enough for Google or research go to work with a reasonable certainty of a comfortable career. All the good people who used to work there have left long ago, and now it is a DoD-like entity with too many levels of management hierarchy. It is a fine place to work for a while, but don't plan on staying...
