The service was friendly and observant. This place has a great feel to it. Similar to a cafe in Las Vegas I liked.

Empanadas for those that don’t know are filled pockets. They frequently contain meat and sometimes cheese. Located at the Portland Saturday Market right in the middle of it all, PDX empanadas represents strongly the Uruguayan form whereas nearly every Latin American country has their own take in the concept. We have some South American culture in the family, and when we have to satisfy the craving for a taste of home, as locals we go there to eat. Largely we do this because they’re not a chef’s take on they concept, they’re authentic! Because of their authenticity to the Uruguayan culture, they also have Mate (pronounced mah-tay in Spanish) they way I love it, a little sweet, and the most delicious alfajores (a sandwich cookie with dulce de leche in the middle) that honestly we enjoy more than the empanadas. They hard part—they at times sell out of alfajores and mate so be sure to get the most options going on Saturday. Even if you go and they don’t have alfajores and mate you’re still safe as they always have empanadas.
