The Abandoned Clay Pit is a really neat hidden gem. Nature has reclaimed the clay mine and has turned it into small grassy valley with a large mound of clay overlooking a small pond on the far side. The pond is full of luscious reeds and swooping sparrows. Very fun to explore and relax in a quiet space.

I assume that I'm the only reviewer here who has actually been to the Abandoned Clay Pits on Cougar Mountain, since the other descriptions are vague, wrong, and sarcastic. Despite the unromantic name, this is actually one of the best destinations on the whole network of Cougar Mountain trails. After the clay mining was abandoned here, the company went to some effort to return the place to a usable state, so the ground has been mostly leveled, and it is now a beautiful mountain meadow with great views of the rest of the Issaquah Alps to the east. Honestly, it's a great place for a picnic on a sunny spring or summer day, and you'll get a laugh when you tell your friends that you had a picnic at the Abandoned Clay Pit.
Fun place to look for animal tracks.
This is the pit to end all pits. The magnum opus of excavation sites. It is quite abandoned, and very much a pit. 5/5 literally the epitome of pits. Yes I have been here, it is a place of great significance for the Chamlets. Cham Mountain wouldn't be the same without it. This place is called Chambodia, the homeland of the Chamlets, slayers of the evil demon Chambit, heroes of Cham Mountain. This place is truly legendary.
If you enjoy exploring the area this is a must see. They unfortunately blocked it off so you can't freely wonder the area like you use to.
Hey look I found Pete's sense of humor while I was there! It's a little dirty but I imagine that a night Comedy Underground should brighten it back up. Hey-- let me know when you want to come by to pick it up. Excluding that, I would agree with the non-judgemental part of Pete's analysis and add that it was a fairly easy trek with no major obstacles and was a very interesting part of the overall North West side of Cougar Mountain.
The clay pit is one of the better clay pits Ive been to(I actually went here). Dont go when it rains however because the clay pit turns into a mud pit. The government currently has an underground base housing ballistic missiles underneath the entire park.
I was quite pleased with the quality of this abandoned clay pit. I'm an amateur abandoned clay pitter, however this is by far the best abandoned clay pit I've been to! I was particularly impressed by the beautiful light grey/brownish hue of the clay.
