Great birthday getaway with a lifelong friend!!! Was going to go to the casino in Lake Charles but decided to do the smart thing(with this Covid stuff) and get outta the big bad city for a few days...away from everybody. We got one of the cabins and we had the whole place to ourselves! If you have not been to Paradise Canyon and you like to see some breathtaking scenery---then you definitely need to check it out

The water looked so beautiful, it felt nice and cold so it makes it easier to cool off on hot sunny days. The trees around the water looked wonderful. Another great thing about Paradise Canyon is that you can fish while you're standing in the water. I loved it there.

Came in January. Hardly anyone there, which made it such a calm experience away from the busy everyday life. It was simply serene. Beautiful fall setting on the river.

The area is beautiful. And so is the water, although way colder than expected even on a hot day. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. However, the prices are high and I don’t know that I would return, even if free. There was a line to get inside, and despite a current pandemic, very little concern (if any) for social distancing; it was busy. Our campsite was littered with trash that nearly filled a trash bag they provided. We spent our first 30 minutes making it somewhat clean for our stay, the fire pits were filled with trash and cigarette butts. Good thing we had a shovel! Don’t get me wrong, Paradise Canyon has many beautiful and amazing things about it too, but it’s harder to appreciate those when the other aspects are factored in. Construction on the property adds to the busy, claustrophobic, and chaotic feeling. The camping section lacks privacy, sites are close together, and right by the road. Stinky portable toilets are located throughout, which make the air have that stench. Didn’t even end up staying the night, but thankfully the staff was kind and provided a refund. (And, somehow the “no pets or loud music” heavily emphasized online and on posted signs is not enforced.)

We stayed in a motorhome and leveling our rig was pretty difficult. If you don't have some pretty long leveling jacks make sure you're prepared with about double the number of blocks you think you might need normally. We stayed in the month of August and school had not yet started so the day use people filled the park up pretty quickly every single day. That was a bummer. People were not respectful of social distancing at all either. However, at 6:00pm the day use people have to leave, so the park was pretty much ours after that. The water stayed nice and cool and was running well during our stay. Our 6, 7 and 10-year-olds enjoyed the little blip of a rapid area, floating through over and over and over once everyone was gone. Due to COVID they're not renting any sort of floats or boats or anything so make sure you bring your own. They advertise Wi-Fi that you can pay for, and you are supposed to get access to it for free if you're camping. At one point one of my companions was able to access it but I never was, despite my handing my phone over to staff in case it was me that was putting the password in improperly or something. I also had absolutely zero phone service for the entire duration of our stay. I have Google Fi and my companion has Verizon. When I say no service I mean no service, so I would be sure to alert any concerned parties that you will be unable to make contact until you leave!
