We rented 4 kayaks at this location a few weeks ago while on a family vacation. Unknown to us, there had been water released from the dam prior to our trip and also shortly after we began our float. Because of this, the water flow and depth was much more than usual and was basically a dangerous situation for our group of 8 kayak riders, 3 of whom were children. We ended up having 3 of our 4 kayaks flip multiple times in the quickly flowing water and we lost some personal items. Not to mention lots of bumps and bruises from hitting the rocks. Half of our party ended up stranded on a small island with only one paddle between them. They had to basically be rescued by some river divers who happened to see them stuck on the island and offered aid. The river divers and several other folks familiar with the river said that this company should never have allowed us on the water under the conditions we encountered. They are lucky that we did not pursue any legal actions for their negligence. We were surprised that they didn't at least offer some sort of discount or other compensation for our bad trip. We are writing this off as a learning experience and a not very enjoyable one. Please exercise caution and ask plenty of questions before you sign up for one of these trips. They are normally pretty calm and fun but ours wasn't. Check out all the details of the trip, the river conditions and everything else before you pay and go. Don't depend upon the kayak rental company.

We have used them twice now in our 20 plus years kayaking down Mountain Fork. Well run operation and helpful. If you need a kayak, give them a shout.
I called at when they opened this morning and asked to make a reservation. They said I could come at 1:00 and hung up on me (didn’t ember my name or anything). So went in person and said that I needed to make a reservation for 1:00 and they wrote down my name. I asked if we needed to arrive no later than 12:45 to get checked in and she said just as long as you get her by 2. Arrived at 12:45 and waited in line. It was after 1 when I had gotten to the desk. I said I had a reservation and the lady started getting on the Wally talkie and completely ignored me. At that time I did walk out as I was just slightly frustrated. But as luck would have it no other place had any availability so went back in to try again. Waiting another 30min and still not to the counter. And she informs some other. Us timers that also had a 1pm reservation that she isn’t sure she has any more canoes because they haven’t picked up the canoes from this morning, so doesn’t want to have them pay. There where people behind us and in front of us that had been told to come at 1 and there was nothing available. There where probably 50 people that had been there since 11 and still hadn’t gone out while we were waiting. They do not have any organization or respect for a reservation. First time to Broken Bow and extremely disappointed in the customer service provided.
Great guys, James was friendly and knowledgeable. Great vans and the river was just perfect
Second visit, there will be more! They have nice equipment and friendly staff. It was the first time for my son and he absolutely enjoyed the trip. If you are not an experienced kayaker then do not attempt this river float as it has class 2 rapids. Newbies should try Beavers Bend Recreational Park.
