Imagine joining a bunch of funny and kind people on a slow jaunt down a lazy river on a Wednesday Evening. Have I enticed you? Throw in some wine and you have Wine Down Wednesday on the River. The two ladies that run the show make life easy for you. They are warm, funny, and accommodating. They immediately understood my disability and made no issue of it. They picked the right kayak for me and my Service Dog Bruster, made sure we were comfortable and by the time we were drifting down river, I felt a sense of wonder and inner peace. My only regret is that I paddled too fast and missed the stopping point. Fortunately a nice family rescued me and my dog, along with the kayak. I will continue to find my joy with these ladies. They know how to treat people and place kindness and compassion above all else.

Kelly (owner) was super friendly and enthusiastic from the start. Kelly was very helpful over the phone when we made reservations for single kayak tour on Tuesday at 12pm. Unfortunately because the water level was high, we had to do the 3 mile instead of 5 mile kayak tour due to safety reasons. After we arrived at RiverGirl Fishing Co. we were greeted with a fun and Halloween decorated building. Kelly met us outside and we signed waivers and hopped in the truck with the kayaks! It was a very easy “check-in” process, although it was just two adults for the 12pm departure. *The life jackets were super clean and fresh smelling!* we were not wearing life vests with years of “body perfume” on them (thanks Kelly for that attention to detail!) Kelly also offered a waterproof case for us to keep a phone in so we could take pictures. Kelly took us in a truck and dropped us off at the river entrance. We literally *floated* down river to the stopping point. The views were gorgeous. The river was relatively calm with a few very very small rapids sprinkled throughout. Kelly and staff were incredibly welcoming, friendly and provided excellent customer service. Their water season runs later than most (up to or through November). We highly recommend RiverGirl Fishing Co. Definitely worth the trip to Todd!
If I could give an extra star I would for sure. I took my first fly fishing lesson from Kelly McCoy about a month ago. Kelly started the lesson patiently explaining everything from how to tie the knots necessary to feeding the line onto my fly rod. Kelly taught me how to read the water and what flies to use. She showed me how to patiently get my fly out of a tree. If I didn't spend this time with Kelly I assure you it would of taken me years to gain the knowledge she shared. Actually I probably would have quit in frustration and went back to regular spin casting. Kelly is the real deal and her passion for the outdoors and incredible river life knowledge is beyond special. Set up your lesson a couple weeks in advance and I promise you will be very pleased. Thanks Kelly! (The fish was my first catch on my fly rod after my lesson with Kelly)
Interesting place. We went Kayaking. For the 11:00 appt we finally got in the water @ 11:30. The Kayaks are sit in, not sit on top. I personally prefer the sit on top, but they were clean and well maintained. It's almost a petting zoo around there as well. On the Kayak we were done in about 50 minutes. A short kayak trip. The river portion is a beautiful trip and the people are really nice.
We really enjoyed our float trip with River Girl! The price was very reasonable and we were able to rent helpful accessories like water shoes and dry bags for a very low price. They were very helpful in giving us directions to the drop in and take out locations. We also rented a bike from River Girl, but were somewhat disappointed in the type of bike we received - it was a mountain bike with very fat tires and a heavy frame, which was not ideal for biking the Todd Railroad Grade Road. It seemed like a popular day with lots of tourists so I imagine bike inventory was somewhat low. Overall a good experience and would recommend, especially for river float trips.
Welcome to this hidden gem in the NC mountains! Friendly service and flexible booking via email or phone. Me and my daughter got a fly-fishing lesson from Jim and after we were allowed to fish in the stream with the lended equipment as long as we pleased! A must if you are eager to learn a new form of !
I wish I could give her 10 stars! Kelly is incredible. We had a group of 9 people and she accommodated us perfectly at a more than reasonable price. She even let us take her dog kayaking with us! We had the most awesome experience with RiverGirl!
Very easy to book and fair pricing. The check in process was a little confusing. But we had the best time and everyone was so nice.
