Very cute. This spot has a lot of holes so it easy to see prairie dogs everywhere. Don't be shy to get out and walk a little. The more east you drive the less likely you will see them. Also there a good chance to see buffalo from this area and west.

Dozens of prairie dogs and stunningly beautiful landscape.

These prairie dogs are so friendly. While the shop is closed, owners have left a vin of peanuts on their porch for suggested 1 donation. You can offer the shelled peanuts to the prairie dogs and they will approach you to take the peanuts and eat them right in front of you. Some might even let you pet them. Be aware of these little creatures while you drive around because they are not fenced in!

This is just outside the west end of Badlands National Park on a gravel road. It is open grasslands & the only thing there is the prairie dogs, and bison if you are lucky (as we were). They are just fun to watch & listen to.

I hadn't seen a prairie dog since I was a child living in Kansas 40 years ago. I forgot how cute and chirpy they were. Definitely worth the short drive from Pinnacles Overlook to watch the vast amounts of prairie dogs and listen to them.
