I first took a capoeira class to build strength and mobility to prepare me for other art forms. 5 years later, I have found capoeira to be beneficial and dynamic for many different reasons: capoeira has strengthened and built upon my yoga experience and teaching, it has added to and stretched my dance background, it has opened up my passion for music and rhythm and language, and it has put me in the midst of a supportive and amazing community. Our contra-mestre Todd Carcará Russell is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced. All the other teachers have unique perspectives, skill, and joy in teaching. 10/10 would recommend.
I’ve been practicing capoeira on and off since ‘99 in Oregon, Michigan, Massachusetts and now New York. This is the best capoeira school I’ve ever attended. Excellent focus on movements, instruments, singing, culture and and of course the roda. Carcara is an excellent instructor with close ties to Brazil and various schools across the US. This opens opportunities for many events at the school all year round - last year had trips to Brazil and Kenya. The students are very welcoming and friendly. Check it out!
My fitness with this style of movement has increased dramatically. I need to have fun while working out this spot is a blessing to find and the community is so welcoming. Thank you guys
Best space in the city if you're interested in capoeira. The owner is incredible and very talented and well educated on physical fitness.
