My mother and I ate lunch at Taj Mahal Fine Indian Cuisine today. I have heard wonderful reviews about this restaurant and they were so true. We had a lovely experience. The service was phenomenal and the food was very very good. We left stuffed! The flavors were complex and the server took his time explaining to us each dish we were interested in. The restaurant was clean, thoughtful and more than I expected. The serving bowls were unique, the whole experience was culturally alive. We will be back. If you have not been here you should absolutely try it. I eat mostly plant based with some fish and the options were plenty. I'm so happy I found this restaurant! I would give 6 stars if I could.

The best Indian in Rochester; it’s as good as it gets anywhere in the country. The lamb vindaloo was amazing. So tender, succulent, and covered in the most wonderfully complex curry. The homemade chutney was delicious. You must support the Taj Mahal. It is a west side gem and the best Indian in Rochester.
Good quality. In my opinion, tied for the second best Indian restaurant in area. Nothing jumps out as "special" but all of the usual dishes are here and prepared correctly. There was a little inconsistency in taste between two orders of the same dish.
I love it. The lamb was so tender and beautiful taste. Seriously it taste beautiful. The combination of spices and all dancing together playing a wonderful story. Very spicy meal do ask for your own tolerance to spicy food. Very very friendly service. The menu is packed of options. They even offer food items from Nepal. I would go again. One last thing the Mango Lassi was not a good as I had it before. I mean it was good but I would have like more yogurt and a larger portion. All in all excellent!
I accidentally gave this one star before writing this review—please disregard!! When we first passed by this restaurant we were skeptical. An Indian restaurant in an old strip mall in Gates? We stopped in to get a takeout menu and the first thing I noticed was how impeccably clean the restaurant was! I mean pristine. This is a very good first impression! Unfortunately they didn’t have any takeout menus, so we checked the menu on line. We liked what we saw and decided to dine in tonight. Our server was prompt, knowledgeable of the menu, professional yet very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious—I had Chicken Xacutti , my husband had Beef Kadai. The entrees were served with a huge dish of basmati rice. We also had Tandoor Naan. The chicken and beef were fork tender; the naan buttery and warm, perfect for dipping into our sauces. This is our new go-to Indian restaurant. Whether you live on the east or west side of the city (we west sliders have been coming to the east side for years for Indian!) this is a place you MUST try! One thing you should be aware of: the beef and seafood dishes do not appear online (Taj Mahal, you may want to change that!). They do have both!
I love the food from Taj Mahal! I've only gotten it via GrubHub delivery, but I've tried the Chicken Vindaloo, and Chicken Tikka Masala for mains, but also ordered the Onion Kulacha (SUPER GOOD), the vegetable Samosa, and the Taj Mahal plater. I especially recommend a side order of the Mango Chutney; it's both sweet and tangy, and a good addition to any dish. Please try this place and you will be delighted!
Excellent food, the best Indian I've had in Rochester. A bit on the spendy side but massive portions, definitely worth a try. 4.5 would be a more accurate rating if it were an option.
While staying in Rochester during the birth of our daughter we decided to give the restaurant a try. It showed up when I did a good search of Indian restaurants near me. I've been to Rochester many times and had never seen this location before so I know it was new. The food was very authentic ... Made to the way we like it and not over powered by spices. They have a very extensive menu with a lot of choices. We ordered for take out, the quantities where more then enough for the whole family. Will definatly be a new favorite location when visiting the Rochester city area.
